Grouse Creek Retreat 2007

Each year a group of friends get together and travel to Grouse Creek to spend a weekend of fun filled activities. This year's event was held on September 7th-9th.

Friday night was poker night and some of us went spotlighting deer. It was a great night and there were several large bucks hanging out in the fields. I was hoping some would still be around for deer hunting.

Satuday morning was spent at the shooting range where various competitions were held. We started with 2 man teams shooting handguns at clay pigeon targets. Each team had 5 targets to hit. The team who finished with all 5 targets first were the winners. Each team used a revolver and a semi-automatic and they had the same amount of ammo. Winner got t-shirts.

For the shotgun contest, each individual had the opportunity to shoot 5 clay pigeons. Those with the highest totals had a shoot-off. Dave Endo and Colton Mecham each hit all 5 of their targets and went to a sudden death shoot-off. Dave prevailed and took the title. Some of the girls took the opportunity to go horseback riding at the Box C Ranch while the rest of us went shooting.

After lunch at the Red Top Cabin, the gang dressed in camo and proceeded to play paintball. It was the first time for several of them and they all had a great time. I took the opportunity to take an ATV ride with Nick up into the mountains where we found some sage hens and a group of deer.

After a Dutch Oven dinner that night, they again played poker until the wee hours of the morning. Sunday was spent at the City of Rocks doing some rock climbing. The spot we found was pretty challenging and only Dave and Eric made it to the top.
