Grouse
Creek Retreat 2006
Each
year a group of friends get together and travel to Grouse Creek
to spend a weekend of fun filled activities. This year's event was
held on July 27-29th and included the following activities:
Those arriving early Friday participated
in the ATV/Motocycle Poker run. 7 Ammo ammo cans were placed in
various locations throught the Pine Creek area. Each Ammo can had
playing cards in envelopes. Individuals who participated had to
find each of the ammo cans and retrieve an envelope with a card
in it. Maps were provided showing where the Ammo cans where located.
After finding all of the ammo cans, each individual would have 7
cards to make a poker hand from. The individuals with the best hand
won the pot. Needless to say, I ended up winning even though I had
someone else select my hand for me.
Early Saturday morning, we went
on an ATV/Motorcycle ride from Pine Creek to Ingham Canyon and back
through North Red Butte. It was a hot and dusty day, but once we
got up into the mountains it was much cooler. At one point we had
trouble with getting an ATV up a steep portion of the trail, but
eventually got it to the top.
After lunch, we spent the rest
of the afternoon at the shooting range. We had several shooting
competitions where the team of Smith/Riley prevailed with the handgun
contest and Dave Endo won the clay pigeon shooting contest.
After a Dutch Oven dinner that night,
we played poker until the wee hours of the morning. Sunday was spent
geocaching in Devil's playground where we found one cache but couldn't
locate the other one. We almost became lost and stuck trying to navigate
the narrow roads with a trailer full of ATV's and bikes but eventually
we made it out of the place.
