Grouse Creek Retreat 2005

Each year a group of friends get together and travel to Grouse Creek to spend a weekend of fun filled activities. This year's event was held on June 15-17th and included the following activities:

Those arriving early Friday participated in the Grouse Creek Amazing Race. Nine ammo cans were placed in locations throught the Grouse Creek Valley. Teams were given a map with where the ammo cans were located and instuctions with pictures for the first location. At each location, the teams got a new set of instructions and pictures where the next ammo can was located. The team with the fastest time received a prize. The team of Ben, Morgan and Dave took an early lead, but the team of Caleb and his brother-in-law beat them narrowly. Team Meacham took a wrong turn and failed to complete the coarse after being lost for sometime. Friday evening was spent trying to find a few rabbits and playing cards into the wee hours at Ben and Tracy's cabin.

At the crack of dawn on Saturday, those who got up early spent a couple of hours thinning out the varmints in Verl Smith's field. After breakfast, we spent the next several hours at the shooting range target shooting and trap shooting. After heating up the shootguns, pistols and rifles so they were nice and hot, we needed to take a break and had lunch at the Hamburger Hut at the Grouse Creek Store.

After lunch we split up into 2 groups. One group played paintball for the rest of the afternoon at the Red Top Cabin campground and the other group took a trail ride up Pine Creek to the Indian Cave before returning to the Smith complex for a Dutch Oven dinner and more cards.
