Grouse Creek Retreat 2003

Each year a group of friends get together and travel to Grouse Creek to spend a weekend of fun filled activities. This year's event was held on June 20-22nd and included the following activities:

Friday evening was spent at the Sun Tunnels viewing the sunset through the tunnels. During the Summer Solstice the setting sun lines up in the middle of the tunnels that run East and West. There was actually a small crowd that had gathered and we found out later the crowd got considerable bigger and there was a party all night. As you can see by the pictures, there were some interesting people there. Don't ask me why someone in their wedding dress was getting their pictures taken on the tunnels.

The rest of the evening was spent playing cards into the wee hours at Ben and Tracy's cabin.

At the crack of dawn on Saturday, those who got up early spent a couple of hours thinning out the varmints in Verl Smith's field. After breakfast, we spent the next several hours at the shooting range target shooting and trap shooting. After heating up the shootguns, pistols and rifles so they were nice and hot, we needed to take a break and had lunch at the newly remodeled Hamburger Hut at the Grouse Creek Store.

After lunch we played paintball for the rest of the afternoon at the Red Top Cabin campground before returning to the Smith complex for a Dutch Oven dinner.

On Sunday, we spent the morning Geocaching (Using a GPS to find caches place by individuals at various locations) in the Devil's Playground area before returning to civilization.
