Grouse Creek Retreat 2002

Each year a group of friends get together and travel to Grouse Creek to spend a weekend of fun filled activities. This year's event was held on June 7-9th and included the following activities:

Friday evening was spent rattlesnake hunting and rabbit hunting for those who arrived early. There weren't many rabbits to find this year and the rattlesnakes kept to themselves so we didn't have much luck. The rest of the evening was spent playing cards into the wee hours at Ben and Tracy's cabin.

At the crack of dawn on Saturday, those who got up early spent a couple of hours thinning out the varmints in Verl Smith's field. After breakfast, we spent the next several hours at the shooting range target shooting and trap shooting. After heating up the shootguns, pistols and rifles so they were nice and hot, we needed to take a break and had lunch at the Grouse Creek Store.

After lunch we played paintball for the rest of the afternoon at the Red Top Cabin campground before returning to the complex for a Dutch Oven dinner. While waiting for dinner, several guests took advantage of the horses provided by the Box C Ranch to improve their riding skills. I was told this was quite entertaining and I wish I had taken some pictures.

On Sunday, we spent the morning Geocaching (Using a GPS to find hidden treasures) and exploring the San Margarita Mines south of Grouse Creek before returning to civilization.
